Our Workshops

  • Introduction to Modern EPP

Are you interested in English Paper Piecing (EPP), but unsure how to begin? In this class Siobhan will familiarize you with all the tools and skills you need to start your own EPP journey. Using her original pattern, Star flower, that utilizes a larger paper base, you will learn how to use templates to cut out your fabrics, glue baste your paper pieces, sew with accurate placement, and even use simple fussy cutting to enhance your design. At the end of class you will have the pattern and the skills you need to complete this project as a pillow or a wall hanging, or continue with more blocks to make a traditional quilt. Once you start EPP you won’t be able to stop thinking about all the new ways you can use your fabric stash!

  • Fussy Cutting Made Fun

So you learned the basics of English Paper Piecing (EPP) but now you want to learn how to make those beautiful intricate designs and aren’t sure where to start? In this class Siobhan will familiarize you with a variety of methods to expand your EPP skills with fussy cutting. Using a traditional Medallion Block, you will learn how to cut repeat motifs, align motifs across seams, and create new patterns. At the end of the class you will have the pattern and skills you need to complete multiple Medallion blocks as a pillow or a wall hanging, or continue with more blocks to make a traditional quilt. Once you start fussy cutting you’ll never look at fabric the same way again!

  • Welcome to Technicolor!

Love color but not sure how to use it in your quilts? In this multi-part workshop Siobhan will teach everyone traditional color theory and how it can be applied to quilting. Participants will make a total of 9 different quilt blocks each using a different color scheme and incorporating different techniques that can be finished as a throw quilt. After this class series you’ll never fear color again!

  • Turning Vacation Memories into Quilts

A tropical sunset, a crumbling castle, a garden in bloom… We all have those beautiful travel memories that stand out, that we think have perfect colors or patterns that would be beautifully translated into fabric. In this workshop Siobhan will provide you with the skills to do just that! Learn to adapt colors from your favorite travel albums and pair them with meaningful patterns to turn your travel memories into quilts. This class can be tailored to different interests and skill levels.

  • Quilt in a Day

In a brand new take on a quilt class staple, Siobhan will be teaching a quilt-in-a-day class based on her own design, Jelly Roll Square. Using a jelly roll or pre-cut 2 ½ inch fabric strips and a little more, students will leave class with a beautiful finished 60x60 quilt top. You will learn the techniques needed to complete this quilt, including making even ¼ inch seams, accurate cutting and trimming, a simple method for partial seams and several impressive quilting designs that can be achieved on a domestic machine. Color placement for maximum impact will also be discussed, and the resulting quilt tops will be designed to impress!

  • Introduction to FPP

Have you heard about Foundation Paper Piecing (FPP), but really not sure how to complete your first block? In this class Siobhan will familiarize you with all the tools and techniques you need to create a beautiful FPP block. You will learn how to follow a paper guide, cut your fabric to fit the guide, manage seam allowance after sewing, as well as the tools and techniques that lead to FPP blocks with straight seams and perfect points. The only problem you will have with FPP after this course is deciding which block to sew next!
